When I coached Middle School, this is the plan that was used to develop the top boy and girl 800m runners in the State out of all 8th graders. The boy broke county records in the 800m and 1600m running 2:06 and 4:44 respectively. The girl broke the county record in the 800m in a time of 2:19. The team had 5 of the top 10 distance runners in the county.
More importantly, all of these athletes went on to have great high school careers, and many of them now run in college.
It is my hope that this plan helps you build a strong foundation as an athlete, incorporating aspects of aerobic, anaerobic, strength, and mobility training. I can’t promise that you will break records in your upcoming season. But I know this training will enable you to have a great season and set you up to have a great future.
